Coraline 3D, or how I learned that I children dislike me.

February 23rd, 2009 by Mark · 2 Comments · Movies

I went to see Coraline 3D this past weekend, which is remarkable considering that 1) it is really, really cold and I don’t like crawling out form under my bed when it is cold, and 2) no places were showing Coraline 3D any later than 9:45pm. On the rare occasions when I DO crawl out from my hole, it is always after 10pm.

We got to the theater, and I realized something: as much as I like kids, and I enjoy playing with my friend’s toddlers and my baby cousin, children, in general, don’t like me. This is strange, because I’m a normal-looking person (from a child’s perspective; we have the same head:body ratio). I have no visible tattoos with profanity or depicting adult situations, and I don’t think I have an especially grating voice. That said, every time I reached over to where the popcorn was, the baby the person next to us was holding would start crying. I mean, WAILING. I would just be reaching into the empty chair where the popcorn bucket would be sitting, then bam: Tear City.

The weird thing was the mom of the kid would look at me like I did something wrong. Lady, you brought a baby to a movie theater. More to the point, you brought a baby to a theater showing a 3D movie. Babies can’t even see in ONE dimension, much less three (I may be wrong. I am not a pediatrician). Who brings a baby to a movie theater? How much enjoyment is that kid gonna get out of the movie? It can’t be because the baby likes popcorn; that stuff is a mess to eat for me, and I have teeth. And now that I think about it, why didn’t she leave when the baby started caterwauling?

It is also possible that my outrageous scent of cologne, cheese, and onions were irritating the kid’s eyes. I guess we’ll never know.

So did you like the movie or just dislike the child sitting next to you??

I agree that taking babies into movie theaters is idiotic… get a babysitter!

I saw Coraline 3-D and liked it, though for me the 3-D part didn’t add a tremendous amount.
